Another wonderful FIRST TIME test pass for the amazing Rebecca H from Orpington who sailed through her automatic driving test today 4th November 2024 with only 3 driving faults!
Rebecca came to me after trying manual for a couple of lessons but not really getting on with it.
There was a real lack of confidence and belief that driving was going to be an achievable aim so, as I say on many occasions, the vast majority of my work was on developing her mental approach while improving her driving skills and awareness.
Rebecca was an absolute delight to teach- she allowed me to push/ cajole/ encourage her along even when she was feeling really nervous..
And then we got to the mock tests, and she turned to ice- no matter what I threw at her, it didn't phase her in the slightest, even when we had nervous tears before or during one or two of the mocks.
And then, this morning, absolute calm and composure- what an absolute superstar you have been!

I am so pleased to be able to congratulate Giovana P from Orpington who breezed through her automatic driving test today 29th October 2024 FIRST TIME with just 1 driving fault.
Gio came to me with previous driving experience from her native Brazil, but she took to driving here really well.
A lot of the work I did was just on getting Gio to manage her general control of the car a little tighter, and to prepare her for the test nerves we knew she would experience.
Even with her previous experience, she was hugely willing to listen to any constructive criticism I may have, or ways she could develop her driving style to make life easier for herself.
With a baby being very imminent we were fortunate to get a test date that worked for us in terms of timescale of being ready, but also before the baby arrived.
Gio- you have been SO much fun to teach and spend time with- I can't wait to see the baby picture when she arrives 👶

Another huge well done, this time to Natalie C from Bromley who passed her automatic driving test today 24th October 2024 FIRST TIME with just 3 driving faults.
Just like her sister, Natalie had a really good feel for driving, right from the very start.
But she coupled this natural driving ability with consistency in her lessons, and a real determination to develop and improve her driving skills every single time she got into the car.
She made it so easy for me to keep pushing her into more difficult situations, until sometimes she was choosing for herself the most tricky option just to keep herself improving.
She was also fortunate enough to be able to do some private practice with Dad (thank you!), which also hugely helped.
This test pass will really help Natalie with her day- to- day life as she has a bit of a commute to and from work each day, starting work early too.
Well done Natalie- it has been an absolute pleasure.

An amazing well done to the lovely Geeta P from Orpington who absolutely smashed her automatic driving test today 10th October 2024 FIRST TIME with no faults to record- the perfect drive.
Geeta helped me to my 5th clean sheet of the year with a super, calm, assured drive which the examiner really appreciated being the first test of the day.
So, Geeta came to me with a little bit of baggage. Having been involved in a couple of car crashes as a child, she had developed a real fear of driving- even being a passenger in the car caused her anxiety.
So, I spent as much time trying to get into her head, and calm those thoughts, as I did teaching her how to drive.
Fortunately Geeta was so, so determined to do this, for herself and for her family, and she made steady progress throughout our time together.
We even made little tweaks in the mocks, to get her more mentally focused on her processes, rather than being concerned about what 'may' go wrong during the test.
In the end, nothing to worry about with a wonderful drive.

Massive, massive congratulations to the amazing Lucy C who passed her automatic driving test today 24th September 2024 FIRST TIME with only 6 driving faults at West Wickham, Bromley.
Initially, I was asked to see Lucy on a one- off occasion as there were issues that led to a belief that Lucy may not be able to drive. Well, at the end of that session I firmly believed that passing her driving test was definitely an achievable aim.
Thankfully, we both hit it off together (I'm not sure I've ever had more random conversations and giggles with anyone as I had with you), and all the way through the learning process, Lucy was engaged and determined to improve.
Slowly, steadily, surely, Lucy's driving progressed, until she actually realised herself that she could do this!
We had a little wobble last week, but again she came back strongly and even more focused, and we had the best drive yesterday, leading into today's pass.

Cherry has been with me for a little while and has had to work tremendously hard to get her skills, and more importantly, her consistency to the necessary level.
The effort and commitment Cherry has put in has been amazing, particularly when she has 3 young children, and a full time (pressurised) job. 👏👏👏
You should be super proud of yourself Cherry. While this may not have been your first test, but sometimes there is just as much pleasure in seeing a pupil pass who has had to work harder than most to achieve that license!

Massive congratulations to Lottie R from Orpington who obliterated her automatic driving test on Friday 26th July 2024 FIRST TIME with a hugely impressive ZERO FAULTS.
Lottie has been an absolute pleasure to teach- bright, bubbly, fun. She took to driving really well, and coped with everything I threw at her for a period of time.
But as the lessons grew in complexity, with more complex junctions/ traffic conditions, she stalled for a period of time and I did A LOT of moaning (she calls it)/ encouraging (I call it 😬).
I just knew that there were another couple of levels she was capable of hitting on her driving and her independence of thought. Finally, after a bit of a more forceful conversation, all of a sudden, ‘there she was!!’
And she kicked on during her mock tests, and waltzed her way through the practical.
Lottie, you have been great fun to teach, and I will miss the bizarreness of some of our conversations. What a fab young lady- now go and smash your future career!

After a difficult first lesson (admittedly in the dark and rain), Lola then proceeded to make really good progress with her driving development. 🔥🔥
She was keen to get the lessons done and dusted, and this acted as a great incentive to get her driving skills as high as possible.
We even went through a period where we slowed the lessons down to ensure that she wasn't doing more lessons than she needed, and then picked back us as we got closer to the driving test.
With the benefit of private practice with mum and dad (thank you for that), and even with a horrible wobble at the very beginning of the test, I was never in doubt that she would pass, and she did just that.

Guilan has had to work incredibly hard to get to test standard, and we actually postponed one test as we just didn’t feel she could make consistently good decisions. 😕
It was a strange learning experience for Guilan, as due to her work patterns, we would see each other every day for a week, and then not do another lesson for 6 or 7 weeks, so it was hard to build that natural learning rhythm.
She has been amazing though over this last week, and apart from a last minute wobble 😬, she eased her way through with a lovely drive.

I am so pleased to be able to say that Lorraine R from Orpington passed her automatic driving test today 27th June 2024 at the FIRST attempt with just 1 driving fault!
Lorraine came to me with plenty of driving experience from driving in America, and more recently in Germany.
While this was great that I didn't have to teach her to drive, we had to do a lot of work on making sure she was positioned correctly (the kerb was a bit of a magnet for a while 🤦♂️), and just within her general driving working on her anticipation and planning so that the whole drive was planned and smooth.
Even with her wealth of previous experience, Lorraine was always happy to take constructive criticism, and made continued progress until this week when her driving went to a whole new level.

It has been a bit of a process with Annabel, as she has had serious confidence issues, and a real feeling that driving probably wasn't for her.
We stuck with it through the good and the difficult lessons, and my whole role as her instructor was to try to push enough confidence into her that we could go to test.
Today she gave a calm, assured drive (albeit a little slow at times), but gave herself the chance to show off her driving skills.

I am delighted to be able to congratulate Dilly R from Orpington who smashed her automatic driving test FIRST TIME (with me) today 28th May 2024 with only 2 driving faults.
Dilly came to me after being unsuccessful elsewhere in a manual car, and both her and her instructor had thought that maybe doing automatic may be the way forward.
I could see straightaway that she could drive, but her nerves were causing her to rush into situations and she was making life so unnecessarily difficult for herself.
All of my work has been on getting Dilly to first of all be kind to herself (she's her own worst critic) but to also help her to deal with the nerves and the occasion of the test day.
While she was still nervous today, we were happy that they weren't overwhelming her, and she had a lovely pre- test drive.
Could she continue that into her actual test- yes she could! I sat in the back, and there wasn't even a flicker of a chance that she wasn't nailing this today.

Massive congratulations to Izzie C who passed her automatic driving test today 23rd April 2024 at Bromley first time with no faults at all- the perfect pass!!
Izzie has been absolutely brilliant to teach. She has smiled her way through the learning experience, even on days when things didn’t go as well as hoped.
Right from the start I could see Izzie as a driver, but learning to drive for her wasn’t without its challenges. Driving after a long day at school, and keeping her concentration levels high definitely made her experience more difficult.
But one day, we had a breakthrough. And from then on, we were able to adapt the way she learnt, and she went from strength to strength. 💪💪💪
As she progressed, we thought her test date was coming a little too soon, so we were able to swap dates with another pupil, and this gave Izzie that extra few weeks to build her consistency level.
In that time she really kicked on, and kept producing really solid drives, with just the odd mistake. 👊👊👊 Today though, another level- examiner pleased, me pleased, but most of all, Izzie pleased. 👏👏👏

It has been a bit of a (fun) journey with Mimi. From being a complete novice, but very nervous and unsure of herself as a driver, to a fantastically capable (but still unsure of herself 😬) driver.
My biggest job has always been to try to get Mimi to see the positives📈 in her development, not just the bits that didn’t go as well as we had hoped.
Mimi has been great company, and I have always looked forward to the lessons (not just because of the extremely tasty home- made cookies 🍪🍪🍪I would receive every lesson), but I always knew that we would have good and interesting conversations, and that she would challenge me with my positivity vs her critical self- analysis.
(As an aside, I have just realised that the cookies 🍪 could be delivered straight to my door now- there’s a thought to consider Mimi!!!)

Congratulations to the amazing Natalie T from Orpington who smashed her automatic driving test today 28th March 2024 FIRST TIME with only 2 driving faults, and a pleased examiner.
When we started the driving lessons last year, I think it's fair to say that Natalie thought this may be an unattainable target.
She had huge anxiety issues about driving, and so little confidence in her own ability.
Over time we were able to reduce her anxiety to the point where she could begin to really develop her independent driving skills.
We had some hiccups along the way, and actually postponed her original test date as she just didn't have the self- belief at that time, but just a few weeks later, and thanks to her always improving mock test results, her confidence rocketed.
We came up with some ways on how she could control the test situation, rather than being swept along by it, and boy did she do that today.
Natalie, we have laughed and cried during lessons (you externally, and me internally 😂😂😂), and had some fab chats. I will honestly miss you, but so excited to see the new car, and how life will become soooooo much easier for you.

This is a huge achievement as when I started with Ash he was hugely anxious about whether he'd be ever be able to drive. I think over the years that the idea had become bigger and bigger, until it seemed unattainable.

I am so pleased for Tom as he has worked so hard over the last few months to improve his driving.
When I first met Tom, he had tried manual lessons and just hadn't clicked with it, so his confidence was a bit low with driving.
He consistently made progress during his lessons with me, but there was always another level I felt he could go to.
After a frustrating mistake on his first test, amongst an otherwise great drive, Tom regrouped and came back more determined, resulting in such a wonderful pass.

A great start to the new year with a FIRST TIME pass for Huimin Z from Orpington who passed her automatic driving test today 12th January 2024 with only 4 driving faults.
Huimin came to me with previous driving experience but not an awful lot of confidence.
For the most part Huimin progressed really nicely, and took to the manoeuvres really, really well- her reverse bay parking is amazingly brilliant!
We had some nerves this week, and before the test today, but with some deep breathing and the trusty drink, the examiner ended by commenting what a progressive drive it was.

An early Christmas present today 5th December 2023 for Rui W from Orpington who passed her automatic driving test at the FIRST TIME of asking with an accomplished drive in challenging conditions.
Rui will be the first to admit that she didn't begin as a natural driver, and has had challenges all the way through to today.
There have been times when we have had to have difficult conversations, and postponed a test when we just thought that she needed more time.
Over the last few weeks she has really shown what she can do. Her driving is so much more assured, with better planning and decision making, and her manoeuvres, particularly the reverse bay parking, is up there with anything I have seen before from any pupil.

Wow, wow, wow! An amazing drive today from Rianna R from Bromley who smashed her automatic practical driving test today 31st October with a FIRST TIME ZERO FAULT pass.
This wasn't really unexpected as I said to her a few days ago that she should be planning on how well she was going to pass, rather than IF she was going to pass.

It would be fair to say that Milly has had a long and winding journey to get to this point. She started with manual, then came to me for automatic, and with Covid, retaking the theory test, and a licence issue, coupled with the disappointment of not passing on the first occasion, it felt that today may not come.
However, Milly got a short notice test, and even with us not having seen eachother for 8 months, we hit it hard over the last few days, and I think it actually benefitted her as there was less time to worry.

A brilliant FIRST TIME automatic test pass today 2nd October 2023 for Daniel S from Orpington who absolutely smashed it with only 2 driving faults. 🚗🚗
The test has been a long time coming for Daniel whose learning was interrupted by Covid and then struggling with the theory test due to his learning needs. To help with this we turned to Chris Benstead of Theory Test Explained who provided much needed 1-2-1 support and helped navigate the tricky system of gaining additional help on the test day,
Once the Theory Test was passed, we applied straightaway for the practical test and built towards it.
Daniel worked so hard to develop his skills, and a huge shout out to his dad Dennis who provided Daniel with so much additional practice on the road- it really made the difference.
So, a whole team effort with this test pass, but most of the credit to Daniel for his sheer determination to get on the road!.

I wasn't at all surprised with this, and told Katie earlier this week that she should be challenging herself on how WELL she could pass, rather than IF she could pass.
Katie was a real natural at driving and picked everything up straightaway. With additional driving time with her dad, who gave her plenty of hours of private practice, it was easy to put her forward for a test when she was offered one at short notice.

I am so pleased for you Shan, as your learning to drive journey hasn't always been the easiest.
Initially Shan was really nervous and this showed in her having a really hard right foot, particularly when braking, so our first task was to get that foot lighter and softer.
While this took a little bit of time, and was always lurking in the background, Shan then began to make steady progress in other areas.
By the time we came to her first test, she was driving beautifully, and I know I was amazed when she didn't achieve success on that occasion.

While initially learning to drive was a bit of a struggle, and we had to apply some unorthodox teaching/ learning strategies, which were a great learning curve for me, slowly, slowly, Riley began to develop.
And then, all of a sudden- he could drive! Sometimes I praised him into submission, sometimes I moaned him into submission, but he was always willing to take on board any constructive criticism, while putting his own humourous side to it.

The hugest of 'well- done's' to Jonathan P who passed his automatic driving test at Bromley today 23rd August 2023 at the 2nd attempt with only 5 driving faults.
On his 1st test, just a few weeks ago, Jonathan only got 1 fault, but made a horrible decision right at the end which cost him the pass we thought he was going to get.
He managed to shrug off the disappointment and came back to claim his full licence.
When I started lessons with Jonathan, he had had a few instructors in a short space of time who he hadn't connected with.
Happily we hit it off, and formed a great working relationship an he has become one of my all- time favourite pupils.

In the first lesson with her, I could see that she could drive but there were issues with her speed and position, caused largely by not looking far enough ahead, so she was always being reactive rather than proactive.

Madhu again came to me with some experience, but with an issue of driving slightly too fast, in slightly the wrong position.
This had a knock on effect into all areas of her driving.

It would be fair to say that Charlie and I have been on a bit of a journey together, and we have both learnt so much from the experience.
Charlie came to me with some previous driving experience, and access to his own car to practice in.
I could see that Charlie could drive, but there were lots of issues for us to solve based on the speed he was trying to drive at, and his ability to concentrate for sustained periods.
We have both worked so hard on developing these features, and bit by bit, with additional help from mum and dad, we found a way through with a mixture of telling/ cajoling/ adapting/ crying (just me Charlie? 🤪).
Through it all, Charlie has progressed and taken each knock back with good grace. He has never questioned what I was trying to get him to do, and with the fact that he is such a lovely lad, with a wicked sense of humour (again, was I laughing with you, or crying at the jokes), he has absolutely nailed it today.

Sue would be the first to say that the beginning of her learning to drive experience was fairly tough going. Initially she was very nervous, which resulted in her driving extremely slowly and being very forceful with the footbrake.
Over time, Sue grew in confidence and was able to drive confidently and with the appropriate amount of subtlety in her right foot.
This was massively helped by her amazing work ethic, where, between lessons she would watch lots of 'how to' videos, which made her more thoughtful and questioning, and able to back up the in- car experience.

This is a hugely, well deserved test pass. I started seeing Sian during the summer, where we did 4 mornings in one week to really get up and running with her driving. She took to driving very well, and throughout was an absolute pleasure to teach.
Once her theory was passed we managed to get a test date a bit earlier than anticipated (thanks Sian's mum 👍), and then we were able to focus on developing Sian's driving to get the balance of trying to either be too progressive, or too cautious.

Lucy came with previous driving experience in a manual car, but really lacked confidence in her own ability. This took a little while to come through in her general driving, and longer with the manoeuvres but once she did get that confidence, then she made rapid progress.
The mock tests that we did seemed to really help Lucy too, as she started to realise that she could drive independently and didn't need to me to help in any way.

I've actually known Megan for a long time, so it was lovely being able to take her through the 'learning to drive process' although she did come with previous driving experience.
As with most learners, confidence was the biggest issue, and getting her self- belief nice and high.
Megan was always willing to be self- critical (usually too harshly), and we had to work on getting her to see her achievements as well as recognising the issues and improving them.
I've really enjoyed teaching you Megan- now life will hopefully get just a little bit easier with your driving licence in hand.

Linda initially had a very disrupted start to her learning to drive journey, with Covid issues. The plan had been for Linda to do an intensive course, but Lockdowns got in the way of that, so this has taken a lot longer than we had anticipated.
It's also not been an easy process for Linda, where she has had to fight for each bit of progress made, particularly focussing on her decision making, where we had to ensure she was making the correct decision all of the time, not just some or most of the time.
This was definitely the hardest part for her.
With a last minute test fail on her 2nd test, the pressure really was on today, but she absolutely sailed through.

I am so proud of you mate. We first started last Summer hoping to do a kind of intensive course, with a pass much earlier on. Unfortunately we hit a couple of obstacles with that idea, so unfortunately the driving experience became a little stop/ start.
With each break we had to do more work on Michael's mental approach to driving as there was a bit of a hang up, and he was far, far too hard on himself when he made a mistake.
Slowly, slowly we got that sorted, and the nerves didn't hit today as we expected them to- I think because Michael finally started to believe in himself and that passing the driving test was a viable result.

The main issue we had was her speed and her discipline- being able to make the same (correct)consistent decision over and over again.

Sam came to me with previous driving experience in a manual car from a few years before, so we had lots of the basics already covered.
Combining that with her absolutely amazing determination and hard work made the lessons hugely enjoyable. While there were some nerves along the way as we got closer and closer to the driving test, we were able to come up with some strategies to combat that, and on the day she flew through.

Congratulations to Jazmine W from Bromley who passed her automatic driving test yesterday 17th September 2021 at the first attempt with ZERO faults! (On a personal note, this is the 2nd of my last 3 passes that have achieved the zero fault success!).
Of the two of us, it was only Jazmine who was surprised with her fantastic achievement, as I knew what a fabulous driver she was, and that if she could control her lack of confidence and her nerves, that she would fly through- which is exactly what she did! 🚗🚗🚗
It has taken Jazz a while to get to this point. When I started seeing her this year, in a manual car, I could see the potential she had but that she also needed a release valve to take away some of the pressure she was feeling. I suggested a taster session in the automatic, and from that point we (she) didn't look back.

We initially had Maddie planned to do her first test in 2020 but the multiple lockdowns put paid to that. With her university life and the ever changing test availability we had to do some quick work a few weeks ago to go for her first test, where a mistake that will haunt her forever cost her the first time pass.
Maddie was able to get a cancellation at short notice and got a well deserved result today.

Emil came to me with plenty of driving experience in a different country, and some experience here, but needed to develop some of the finer subtleties of driving.
In every lesson, regardless of his previous experience, he took on board what I wanted him to do to improve his driving.
As well as the driving itself, i don't think i have ever laughed so much in my life with a pupil- Emil is an extremely funny guy, and we had some very, very weird conversations.

Harry came to me with previous practice in a manual, and a driving test experience from a couple of years ago. We both initially thought that it may take an hour or two to get everything working together again- hands, feet and eyes, but he took to the automatic really quickly and we were out amongst the traffic dealing with crossroads and roundabouts on the first lesson.
From then on, we only really had to do some tidying up before he was able to take the test.
