🌟🌟Well done to Daniel S from Orpington on being this week's winner of our 'Superstar Driver' of the Week award! 🌟🌟
Daniel has completed a few driving lessons with me since passing his theory test, and having done lessons with me a few years ago pre- Covid.
I have been able to push his development along quite quickly as he doesn't seem to have forgotten an awful lot.
Daniel has a huge amount of motivation to pass, and he is always trying to be as precise as he can be (not trying to 'get away' with anything).
I'm really pleased with how you have come back to your lessons Daniel- well done, and keep this up! 👏👏👏
🌟Well done to Kerri R from Orpington BR6 on being the winner of our 'Star Driver of the Week' award! 🌟
Kerri has only had 6 hours of driving lessons previous to todays lesson, which have mostly focused on learning to emerge at the end of roads, and how to turn left and right, with some 'Meeting Traffic' work on top.
It would be fair to say that Kerri has to work really hard on her lessons, but is now really starting to come along.
In addition to the lessons themselves, Kerri gives her driving a lot of though between sessions and this has been so noticeable over the last couple of weeks.
So we started work on turning right at major junctions (crossroads), and Kerri was incredibly calm and competent at this skill. She was able to manipulate the car onto the correct position at the correct speed, and identify opportunities to make progress when it was safe to go.
Well done Kerri- what a great driving lesson! 😀
🌟Well done to Riley H from Swanley BR7 on being this weeks winner of our 'Superstar Driver of the Week' award! 🌟
Riley has had a couple of challenges while learning to drive, with his control of speed being the main one.
Over recent weeks though he has really applied himself to improve this, which gives him far more thinking and working out time.
But this achievement is for is bay parking manoeuvres. A couple of weeks ago we started on his parallel parking, which he took to brilliantly.
He followed that up this week with some absolutely brilliant forward and reverse bay parking.
All of that watching of Top Gear is paying off Riley! 😉
Keep this progress going mate- I'm really pleased with you. 👏👏👏
⭐🚗 And the Superstar Driver of the Week is Shan S from Orpington BR6⭐👏
So today we started work on parallel parking.
As usual, on the pupil's first attempt, I briefly explain what I'd like them to do, and then ask them to 'have a go'.
Rather than me sitting there telling them what to do and how to do it, I prefer my pupil to try and work out what they think they need to do, and then put it into action.
Once they have completed the manoeuvre, and it doesn't matter how well or badly it goes, we discuss what they can do differently to get a better outcome.
On Shan's first attempt, she was able to put everything into place and guide the back end of the car in, but ended quite a long way back from the target vehicle, and wasn't too sure where the car was positioned in relation to the kerb.
So we had a chat about what was needed, led by Shan, and on both her 2nd and 3rd attempt she absolutely nailed it!
Well done Shan!! 👏👏👏
⭐⭐My Superstar Driver of the Week is Madhu R from Orpington BR6. ⭐⭐
Madhu came to me with some driving experience, and we have mostly been working on developing her anticipation and planning, by getting her to be more demanding of herself when controlling her speed and position.
I knew that there was another level she could go to, and over the last 3 lessons she has made considerable progress with the control of the car, and this has massively helped her to solve any potential problems before they become real problems for her i.e identifying a slowing of traffic further ahead, or slowing the car down earlier when coming into junctions.
This has made such a difference to the 'feel' of the car, as it now feels like both Madhu and the car are one entity- the steering wheel being an extension of her hands, and the pedals being an extension of her feet.
Adding in an absolutely brilliant reverse bay park this week, and we are well on our way to passing the driving test soon.
Keep this up Madhu!!
⭐⭐Very well done to Beth W from Bromley BR2 who is our ‘Superstar Driver of the Week’. ⭐⭐
Beth came to me this week with some driving experience, but was very nervous after a long period of not driving, and a difficult time with her previous driving instructor who used to shout at her.
Initially we took our time in getting Beth used to being back in control of a vehicle, and worked on emergings, and turning left and right.
Slowly, slowly I could see her confidence build and towards the end of the lesson we managed to get out onto a main road, and also to drive herself home.
The following lesson, I was able to push and develop Beth so much more, working on meeting traffic and turning right at major junctions.
Beth has already changed so much in her approach and attitude to driving, just in the 4 hours this week, and is also great company in the car.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the next steps in progression over the next few weeks.
Well done Beth- superstar!! 👊👊
⭐Well done to our Star Learner Driver of the Week, Sue L from Bromley BR1 💥
I have only seen Sue for approximately 4 weeks, and initially she has struggled to control the car.
Over the last week though, there has been a marked improvement, as we have been working on 'Meeting Traffic' situations.
Sue is now dominating the car much more, is able to manipulate the car in slow, delicate situations, identify who has priority in Meeting Traffic situations, take up good positions, and show improving observations.
You are working so hard Sue- keep this up!👊👊
⭐Our Star Driver of the Week is James S from Orpington BR5💥
James started with me a week ago, and we have had a number of lessons this week.
He started the driving lessons last week feeling quite anxious as he had tried manual and not got on with the car or with the instructor (it is SO important to be able to form a good working relationship), and he visibly relaxed and enjoyed the first session. At the end of the first lesson, he knew that driving was something he was going to be capable of doing.
Following on from that, we have covered Meeting Traffic, Crossroads and Roundabouts and is now becoming more independent in his decision making.
Well done James- a week of driving lessons to be proud of. 👍
⭐ ⭐ Some great work this week in his driving lesson by Morris E of Bromley to become our Star Driver of the Week. 🚘🚘
After missing a week of lessons with me having some time off, Morris came back with a bang 💥💥today.
We focused on his general driving, by driving to a new area and ensuring he could apply his same skills and driving strategies in unknown roads. We definitely had some challenges!
Morris is definitely learning that if he gives himself a fraction more time, that his driving becomes so much easier to control and manage.
A great driving lesson mate- really enjoyed it!⭐ 💥🚘
My business is built on reputation and happy customers. Your feedback will be used to improve my service and tuition going forward.
Absolutely, definitely, YES! You will definitely be driving on your first lesson.
If you are new to driving, I will drive you to a suitable location to get you started. It’s vital that your first few lessons are conducted in an area that will ensure your success and build your confidence.
I will take a few minutes to record your licence details, test your eyesight and explain how to adjust your seat, head restraint and make sure you are comfortable.
I will then explain the controls that you will need to operate during your first lesson.
You will then be given a briefing on the move off and stop procedure with a short discussion to ensure you understand what is required.
You will then be given full talk through and will be guided through your practical driving session. You will be able to learn at your own pace and will progress through each topic as and when you feel ready.
I find that, for most pupils, taking a 90-minute or 2- hour lesson every week proves to be the most successful strategy for most students.
90- minute or 2- hour lessons are far more beneficial to you! You will learn far more for your money and you will also be test ready quicker. You will have a decent amount of condensed learning in one go, with time to digest and be focused for your next lesson.
Taking a regular weekly lesson has proven success as it provides continuity, the retention of knowledge, and it will reduce your learning period. We will aim to offer you a regular lesson slot that you can book in advance and keep from the time you commence your lessons until you pass your test.
You will also be able to book more than one lesson slot per week should you wish to reduce your learning period and be test ready sooner (subject to instructor availability).
That is a really good question.
Most people wrongly assume that all driving instructors and schools are the same! We are absolutely not.
I am extremely proud of the quality and the overall unique service that the school provides.
Some schools just offer you the lessons themselves, whereas we provide a complete service including free online theory training, free training book, free dedicated 'Learn to Drive' app, and free additional help for nervous or anxious pupils.
A number of local schools also price their lessons by 50 minutes, which makes them look A LOT cheaper than us, whereas in reality we are all priced really closely.
Honestly, I don't know.
It really is impossible for me to know until you begin your tuition and I see how you respond to me, the car, and the learning experience.
The DVSA suggest that the average is around 45- 50 hours, but in reality I find that most of my students are test ready sooner than that.
It really does depend on the individual, but my recommendation is to talk more specifically about this once I have seen you a couple of times.
Yes, I do, and I usually really enjoy it, but it does depend on the circumstances.
I do not pretend to be an expert, or that I possess special training for certain disabilities.
But I do have substantial experience of both living with, and teaching people, who come under the umbrella of the autistic spectrum, have dyslexia/ dyspraxia or other additional needs, so I am happy to chat and see if we match up.
If you live in Orpington (BR5/ BR6), Sidcup (DA14/ DA15), Bromley (BR1/ BR2, BR7) and Swanley (BR8) then yes I do!
Pupils will often select an instructor on a 'near me' basis, but instructors generally all know our closest localities really well, so you don't necessarily need to choose an instructor who lives the closest to you.

Matt Shurmer Driving School offer “Success Based Lessons”. So what exactly does that mean? Well, it means that each driving lesson is constructed to both build confidence as well as learning new skills or building on existing skills. The school conducts client centred lessons, which involves pupil interaction as to what will be covered on each session and how and why it fits in to the learning syllabus.
Each lesson will commence with an interactive discussion to establish the subject to be covered. It’s important that pupils completely understand what the objective of each lesson is and what they are looking to achieve during the session. A successful lesson is one that can be measured from the setting of the objective to the closing summary to ascertain what has been learnt and how that knowledge and skill will take the learner closer to their goal of successfully passing their driving test and keeping them safe on Britain’s roads.
