⭐ ⭐ Some great work this week in his driving lesson by Morris E of Bromley to become our Star Driver of the Week. 🚘🚘
After missing a week of lessons with me having some time off, Morris came back with a bang 💥💥today.
We focused on his general driving, by driving to a new area and ensuring he could apply his same skills and driving strategies in unknown roads. We definitely had some challenges!
Morris is definitely learning that if he gives himself a fraction more time, that his driving becomes so much easier to control and manage.
A great driving lesson mate- really enjoyed it!⭐ 💥🚘
🌟Well done to Sophie O from Sidcup on being this week's winner of our 'Star Driver' of the Week award!
Sophie has completed a few driving lessons with me now, and after coming to me with some previous experience in a manual, I have been able to push her development along quite quickly in the automatic.
Today we were looking at improving her roundabout work. Initially Sophie felt a little nervous of the topic, and of driving in general today, but showed great improvement in her roundabout ability by the end of the lesson.
To start off she wasn't overly sure when to go or not go, and was turning down opportunities to make progress, but we were able to resolve this over the 90 minutes and she ended up giving herself time on her approach to the roundabouts to make consistently good decisions.
I'm really pleased with how you stuck at it today Sophie- well done 👏👏👏
🌟Well done to Jaz M from Orpington BR6 on being the winner of our 'Star Driver of the Week' award! 🌟
Jaz has only had 3 hours of driving lessons previous to todays lesson, which have mostly focused on learning to emerge at the end of roads, and how to turn left and right.
So today, we started our Meeting Traffic topic, and once Jaz had 'warmed up' she did so, so well. Her anticipation and planning both improved immeasurably, and she was able to take up appropriate road positions when faced with Meeting Traffic situations, plus also developed her decision making ability.🔥🔥🔥😱😱😱
Well done Jaz- what a great driving lesson. 😀
🌟Well done to Katie P from St Paul's Cray, Orpington BR5 on being this weeks winner of our 'Star Driver of the Week' award! 🌟
Today was only Katie's second driving lesson, so a great achievement to already be delivering a wonderful drive.
We continued to work on our emergings, turning left and turning right, and positioning, and Katie showed improved control and understanding from her first driving lesson.🔥🔥🔥
We managed to move away from our initial driving area, into a couple of new areas which are a little more demanding, but this didn't phase her at all.
Well done Katie 😀
⭐🚗 And the Star Driver of the Week is Amelia P from Bromley BR1⭐👏
Amelia had an absolutely wonderful automatic driving lesson yesterday.
We started work on Crossroads (turning right at major junctions), and after talking through the different ways they can be done (either as an offside or a nearside turn), we headed over to west Wickham to find some.
Initially I talked Amelia through the first few crossroads, as we looked at both types of turn. Then I guided Amelia with questioning- where are you going to move to, where will you wait, how will you know when it is safe to go?
Then on the last couple of crossroads, I stayed pretty quiet and just encouraged Amelia with her decision making.
Amelia showed a really good understanding of what we were trying to do- develop knowledge and understanding, plus working on her decision making.
I'm looking forward to next weeks lesson where Amelia can show me what she has remembered, and to improve her independence.
Fantastic lesson Amelia 👏👏
⭐⭐My Star Driver of the Week is Shelim A from Bromley BR2. ⭐⭐
Shelim is very early in his driving experience, but he had a stunningly brilliant lesson where the subject was Meeting Traffic.
We actively searched for tight little roads with lots of meeting traffic potential.
Shelim was able to develop and utilise his previously learnt skill of being able to manipulate the car at slow speeds, while also identifying meeting traffic situations.
We worked on his defensive driving, anticipation and planning while working on the topic.
A great lesson Shelim- keep this going!
⭐⭐Very well done to Megan F from St Mary Cray, Orpington who is our ‘Star Driver of the Week’. ⭐⭐
Megan has only had a couple of lessons with me previously where we worked on emerging, and turning left and right.
Today she came out a little nervous as we were starting to work on 'Meeting Traffic' which helps pupils to start thinking of what is happening outside of the car, and how they fit in with all of the other drivers on the road.
As it turned out, the nerves were completely unnecessary as Megan had a brilliant lesson, being able to identify meeting traffic situations, positioning correctly, and great use of her mirrors to ensure she stayed safe. 👏👏
Well done Megan 👏
⭐⭐Very well done to Nayna D from Locksbottom, Orpington who is our ‘Star Driver of the Week’. ⭐⭐
Nayna has not found learning to drive an easy process but can always be relied upon to give 100% to our driving lessons, and always looks forward to, and enjoys them.
We had a much-improved session last week, and she has followed that up this week with a great lesson doing her manoeuvres.
💥💥She absolutely smashed her Right Reverse, her Parallel Park and her forward Bay Park. She finished this off with a forward Bay Park between two cars, where she also had to make some adjustments to the movement. 💥💥
I’m so pleased we have had these ‘breakthrough’ sessions- the next challenge is to keep this development going! 👊👊👊
Well done Nayna 👏
⭐Our Star Driver of the Week is Amy S from Sundridge Park in Bromley BR1 💥
Amy initially started with a 3- day intensive course over the summer holidays as we were hoping for a relatively quick test date.
Unfortunately, with the booking system being under severe pressure at the moment, we then had to space the driving lessons out more than we'd like to ensure Amy isn't doing more, and spending more, than needed.
This caused a small stutter in the learning to drive process, but Amy is now really starting to find her flow again, and today's lesson was her best yet!
Some lovely manoeuvring, and good working out of problems when the process didn't quite work out (such a valuable ability).🔥🔥
The driving is becoming much smoother, and calmer again.
It was a lovely start to my Saturday!👍
⭐Well done to our 'Star Driver of the Week' Jing W from St Paul's Cray in Orpington BR5 💥
Jing came to me with some driving experience, but is having to work hard to become an 'independent driver'.
For the last few driving lessons I have been waiting for the breakthrough lesson, where she is driving without much input from me.
On Friday 29th October 2021, we had that breakthrough! For the most part, it was a cool, calm and confident drive, and has shown Jing what she is capable of.
This has given her a real boost, and I'm looking forward to this continuing on into the next lesson.
Well done Jing!
⭐Well done to our Star Driver of the Week Tong G from Petts Wood, Orpington BR5 💥
I have only seen Tong for approximately 4 weeks, as she was doing manual lessons before. She was struggling to put everything together in the manual car, but since changing to automatic, she has found learning to drive so much easier.
We have spent the last few weeks revisiting and refreshing her Meeting Traffic, Crossroads, and Roundabouts knowledge and today we put it all to the test with a drive through Crittals Corner roundabout and Ruxley roundabout in Sidcup.
The area is reasonably unfamiliar to her, but she coped really well with the different challenges she faced, and hardly put a foot wrong. 👊👊
⭐Our Star Driver of the Week is Priscilla P from Bromley BR1 💥
Priscilla had a great driving lesson this week. After having an enforced week off due to the fuel shortage, she was quite nervous today, but you wouldn't have known it!
She coped with everything I threw at her- tricky meeting traffic situations, difficult roundabouts, and a very demanding right turn at a very busy crossroads which she absolutely nailed- twice! 🔥🔥
Well done Priscilla- a driving lesson to be proud of. 👍
My business is built on reputation and happy customers. Your feedback will be used to improve my service and tuition going forward.
Absolutely, definitely, YES! You will definitely be driving on your first lesson.
If you are new to driving, I will drive you to a suitable location to get you started. It’s vital that your first few lessons are conducted in an area that will ensure your success and build your confidence.
I will take a few minutes to record your licence details, test your eyesight and explain how to adjust your seat, head restraint and make sure you are comfortable.
I will then explain the controls that you will need to operate during your first lesson.
You will then be given a briefing on the move off and stop procedure with a short discussion to ensure you understand what is required.
You will then be given full talk through and will be guided through your practical driving session. You will be able to learn at your own pace and will progress through each topic as and when you feel ready.
I find that, for most pupils, taking a 90-minute or 2- hour lesson every week proves to be the most successful strategy for most students.
90- minute or 2- hour lessons are far more beneficial to you! You will learn far more for your money and you will also be test ready quicker. You will have a decent amount of condensed learning in one go, with time to digest and be focused for your next lesson.
Taking a regular weekly lesson has proven success as it provides continuity, the retention of knowledge, and it will reduce your learning period. We will aim to offer you a regular lesson slot that you can book in advance and keep from the time you commence your lessons until you pass your test.
You will also be able to book more than one lesson slot per week should you wish to reduce your learning period and be test ready sooner (subject to instructor availability).
That is a really good question.
Most people wrongly assume that all driving instructors and schools are the same! We are absolutely not.
I am extremely proud of the quality and the overall unique service that the school provides.
Some schools just offer you the lessons themselves, whereas we provide a complete service including free online theory training, free training book, free dedicated 'Learn to Drive' app, and free additional help for nervous or anxious pupils.
A number of local schools also price their lessons by 50 minutes, which makes them look A LOT cheaper than us, whereas in reality we are all priced really closely.
Honestly, I don't know.
It really is impossible for me to know until you begin your tuition and I see how you respond to me, the car, and the learning experience.
The DVSA suggest that the average is around 45- 50 hours, but in reality I find that most of my students are test ready sooner than that.
It really does depend on the individual, but my recommendation is to talk more specifically about this once I have seen you a couple of times.
Yes, I do, and I usually really enjoy it, but it does depend on the circumstances.
I do not pretend to be an expert, or that I possess special training for certain disabilities.
But I do have substantial experience of both living with, and teaching people, who come under the umbrella of the autistic spectrum, have dyslexia/ dyspraxia or other additional needs, so I am happy to chat and see if we match up.
If you live in Orpington (BR5/ BR6), Sidcup (DA14/ DA15), Bromley (BR1/ BR2, BR7) and Swanley (BR8) then yes I do!
Pupils will often select an instructor on a 'near me' basis, but instructors generally all know our closest localities really well, so you don't necessarily need to choose an instructor who lives the closest to you.

Matt Shurmer Driving School offer “Success Based Lessons”. So what exactly does that mean? Well, it means that each driving lesson is constructed to both build confidence as well as learning new skills or building on existing skills. The school conducts client centred lessons, which involves pupil interaction as to what will be covered on each session and how and why it fits in to the learning syllabus.
Each lesson will commence with an interactive discussion to establish the subject to be covered. It’s important that pupils completely understand what the objective of each lesson is and what they are looking to achieve during the session. A successful lesson is one that can be measured from the setting of the objective to the closing summary to ascertain what has been learnt and how that knowledge and skill will take the learner closer to their goal of successfully passing their driving test and keeping them safe on Britain’s roads.
